LED Stance for Light Emitting Diode. Diode contains two lead semiconductor light source. Basically, it is simple P-N junction diode which emits light when activated. In other words LED is a semiconductor device that converts electricity into light. LED products produce light very efficiently. An electrical current passes through semiconductor material, which illuminates the little/tiny light sources called as LEDs. The heat produced is absorbed into a heat sink.
Common LED colors include blue, red, amber and green. There is actually no such thing as a white LED. To get white light, different LED colors are covered or mixed with a phosphor material that converts the specific color of the light. Phosphor is the yellow material which can be found on some LED products. Colored LEDs are widely used as indicator lights and signal lights. Colored LEDs are also used as power button on computer.
LED bulb solutions may look like same as conventional light bulbs and some may not, but can better match the performance of traditional light bulbs. Because of LEDs are small they provide huge unique design opportunities. Some LED light fixtures may have LEDs built-in as a permanent light source.
LED emit light in a specific direction, it means LEDs are directional light sources, unlike compact fluorescent bulbs and incandescent, which emits light and heat in all directions. For this reason, LED lighting is able to use light and energy more efficiently in many applications.
